How to setup your categories and tags in Squarespace
There are so many different elements that go into making sure your website is SEO friendly. One of the elements is the categories and tags listed in a blog post or gallery.
Today, I want to show you how you can set up categories and tags on your Squarespace site, and make sure you're directing your audience to the content they are searching for.
Categories and tags are used in different areas of your Squarespace site:
Let me show you how to set them up in the most commonly used site feature - your blog post.
Step 1 - Find your post settings
Open the post in which you want to add categories and tags to. You can do this by clicking on a page in your page list that contains the content in which you want to add categories and tags to. In this case, I'm opening my blog post.
Click the 'EDIT' button so that you can see all of the settings for that post. The links to add tags and categories are listed at the bottom left corner of the 'Content' section.
Step 2 - Add tags
To add tags to your posts, click on the tags plus symbol (+) and add all the tags you with by typing them in and pressing enter.
Step 3 - add categories
Similar to the tags, you will want to click on the category plus symbol (+). Click on 'Create new category' and start typing specific categories you'd like to use to separate your blog content, then press enter.
Let's say you've already added these categories, all you need to do is click the category plus symbol (+) and click on the specific category for that blog post.
Step 4 - save, save, save!
The one feature I really wish Squarespace had when it came to inputing any kind of content onto a website is the auto-save feature. Unfortunately, Squarespace isn't quite there yet. Yes! that keyword is YET.
So be sure that at anytime you are inputting content onto your website, you are saving at any end point you reach, just in case of a technical malfunction. You'll want to make sure you're hitting 'Save' if you're not quite done with what you're writting or 'Save + Publish' if you're ready to share your awesome content with the rest of your readers.
How will they be displayed on my website?
Tags and Categories display differently depending on the following two factors: Where they are added and what template you're using.
Below is a few examples of how they are displayed on most blog pages and events.
