Why Squarespace is the platform for you
There have been many debates sparked regarding different platforms and whether they are right for you. Thing is, there are so many of them out there that offer so many different things. But how do you go about choosing one? How do you know if one is specifically for you?
While I may not know a whole lot about the other platforms, I am definitely very knowledgeable when it comes to Squarespace.
A little back story...
I've used 2 different platforms very briefly for a short couple years. Initially, I used Wix. and that the time, I absolutely hated that it lacked the ability to really customize my site (or rather blog) the way I wanted to. I really tried setting it up the way I wanted to for 4 months, until I just told myself I was tired of dealing with this.
That's when I just decided to migrate to Wordpress. Originally, I had not idea there were 2 different kinds of Wordpress sites. I started out on .com for a year, and blogging about random rambling posts. The more I grew my blog and i started to take all of this a lot more seriously, I realized I would need to move my site to ".org". I literally knew nothing about how to even go about this and asked around, but the whole thing just seem SO COMPLICATED. I knew this is something I just wasn't ready to deal with any longer.
It didn't take me a whole lot of time until I found a few posts about the how Squarespace is the new platform to be on. I googled, I read, I tried.... And than that was it. I had officially found the platform I would be on from here on out.
So what makes Squarespace so great?
There is a long long list of reason why Squarespace had turned out to be the perfect platform for me, especially in a time where I was getting really serious about building a following through my blog (and of course just a little before I started my business as a website designer).
I spent the next year just really getting to know the platform and how it works, and alas! I was able to come up with a list full of reasons why this platform could be right for just about anyone. Here goes.
1 | It's user friendly
Squarespace was designed so that all customers could use it without the headache. Yep, that's right - it was designed for the not-so-tech savvy customers as well. It definitely makes things easier to customize your website by utilizing the drag and drop features, any built in widgets and pre designed page layouts.
Of course, they had to keep up with the theme when it came to publishing blog posts. Squarespace has made it incredibly easy to create, edit any tags and categories and publish blog posts. It also allows you to use all of the same features / widgets as you would when designing a regular page. Awesome right?!
2 | It's all in one
I'm one to seek the most simplest route. I've grown to hate anything that gets too complicated, and requires to much time and effort to to maintain. I loved that the platform litterally includes web hosting, themes, domain names and the automatic updates and more.
When you sign up for an account in Squarespace, a custom domain name and hosting services are included in your monthly plan. For an extra fee ($5 / month), you also have the option to add a custom email address that matches your domain name - for example, firstname.lastname@example.org.
Squarespace intergrates well with other companies for different things. Here's a small list to name a few:
- Mailchimp (for collecting emails)
- Google Docs
- Xero (to keep track of finances and sales taxes for e-commerce plans)
- ShipStation (printing shipping labels and sending shipment notifications)
- Acuity (to book appointments)
You can view a lot more features on the Squarespace site. Everything is all in one convenient, organized place with Squarespace.
3 | Compatibility throughout every device
ITS SO MOBILE FRIENDLY ITS UNREAL.
In an age where everything is becoming more mobile, it's crucial that business owners and bloggers have a site that appears correctly on tablets and smartphones. Thankfully, Squarespace has you covered; each of their templates is compatible across all platforms. So the next time someone pulls up your site from their iPhone, your website will remain intact and looking just as great as the web version.
4 | It's affordable
Depending on what you're using your website for, plans can range from $16-$26 a month for website plans, and $30-$46 a month for online stores.
Plans include and unlimited amount of pages and galleries, are mobile friendly, a custom domain (with annual plans only) and more. If you're looking for a plan that offers a lot more, you'll want to go with the "business" plan.
Prices aren't too bad considering you get everything in one.
5 | 24/7 Customer Support
The Squarespace support team is always available and are quick to answer any questions you have about the platform. They are available through email inquiries, and through a chat. Not only are they quick to respond, they always have helpful answers that can point you in the right direction.
Squarespace also offers articles, videos, live chats, and community forums for extra help.
6 | No updates required
Unlike Wordpress, you won't ever have to worry about any backend updates. Squarespace makes sure to take care of all of that for you when it comes to any bug fixes, widget updates, or template updates. It makes it absolutely helpful for any of you who run your blog or business alone.
